I absolutely adore onion bagels, and this simple recipe is one of my favorites! These bagels are delicious served plain with ghee or butter. Or, slice one in half and use it as sandwich bread. They toast very well and get a nice little crunch. Who says gluten-free has to be boring? Not me!
For this recipe, I use my 6-serving, regular-size, donut pan:

Do you recognize the ingredients in this recipe? That's because it's very similar to my yummy sandwich rounds recipe. Double YUM!! |

I am heading over to Amazon to buy those donut pans now. It's funny, but all the donut recipes in the world couldn't make me buy that pan, but a bagel recipe did! I can't wait to try this. My husband and I are loving all the recipes from your site that we have tried. He is really excited about this one too. I love that there is no added sweetener to this either. The coconut flour should naturally add enough sweetness. Thanks to you, I am a convert to coconut flour. I already had a bag, but after I started getting your recipes, I started using it, and experimenting. What's odd is that I am not a fan of coconut, but I am a big fan of coconut flour. The softness and subtle sweetness it imparts to baked goods is amazing.
Wow, Mari, you could not have paid me a bigger compliment. Thank you!
I love coconut flour, too, and find it quite neutral in flavor. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun baking many recipes in your donut pan. :-)
Have these in the oven as I write. Substituted chia seeds and hemp seeds for the caraway and poppy. Hoping those will give them a little more nutrition bump, although you can't get much better than the original. Just not a caraway fan. ;-)
Your seeds sound like a wonderful variation on the recipe, Kimberly! I know you're going to love the bagels; they're my personal fave. :-)
This sounds amazing! Would you add nutritional info like calories & carbs please?
Hi Penny, I don't believe in counting calories because they're not all created equal. Read weight loss myth #1: http://www.aunaturalenutrition.com/articles/weight-loss-myth-1
This recipe is almost identical to my sandwich rounds recipe and another reader calculated the carbs in it: According to the recipe creator on MyFitnessPal, one serving has 7 carbs with 4 fibers for a net carb count of 3 carbs.
Not all carbs are created equal either - see my Guide to Carbs: http://www.aunaturalenutrition.com/articles/the-au-naturale-nutrition-guide-to-carbs
I hope you love the bagels as much as I do! ;-)
I wanted to know if almond flour could be substituted for the coconut flour. I am allergic to coconut.
Hi Katelyn, no, there is really nothing else like coconut flour because it soaks up so much liquid. In your case, I'd suggest you add more flax meal and experiment with the amount of liquid (eggs/butter). That could work.
Hmm these look delicious, thanks for posting up this recipe, looks quite simple to make.
Simon
You're very welcome. Enjoy!
Hi, do these have an eggy taste due to the number of eggs used?
Thanks, Cindy
I never thought so; especially with all the lovely spices. Enjoy!
