My 10 Favorite Health Apps by Jenny at www.AuNaturaleNutrition.com.   Be healthy on the go!

​Here on Au Naturale Nutrition I write a lot about eating traditional foods and living a simple lifestyle.  I whole-heartedly believe in that!  I do think a smartphone can be a great tool to use, as long as it adds to modern convenience and doesn't cause extra stress or reliance upon it.  I certainly know that having my calendar on my iPhone has made my life so much better.  

Here are a few of my favorite apps I like to use when on the go.  They're either on my iPhone or iPad.  (I'm not sure if they work on other devices, but it's an easy google search.)  Most are completely free!  

(The links below are to the iTunes store.  I have included the feature descriptions from the site that I find the most useful with every app.)

Pocket Yoga

With Pocket Yoga you can keep up with your practice at your own pace in the comforts of your own home. Simply roll out your mat, place your device in front, and Pocket Yoga will guide you through your entire session.

Find Me Gluten Free

View local business ratings and reviews, gluten-free menus, get directions, and call them right from the app. Also, easily view gluten-free menus and allergen lists of chains and fast food restaurants. Find gluten-free pizza, bakeries, fast food, local businesses, and more!

The Now is an app to help you retrain your mind to live more fully in the moment through mindfulness training. The process works by using periodic push notifications with an audible chime and relevant message, to remind you to be fully focused on the present. The ultimate goal being to make mindfulness essentially continuous.

This cosmetics database is the world's largest safety reference tool for personal-care products. Easy-to-navigate safety ratings at your fingertips for over 72,000 products and ingredients on the market. 

Calculates a product safety score to help make your purchase decision.

Simply Being
If you've ever wanted to try mediation and enjoy the deep relaxation, stress relief and benefits, this is the app for you!

It allows you to choose from 5 meditation times and gives you to option to listen to the guided meditation with or without music or nature sounds. You can also listen to the music or nature sounds alone. In addition, you can choose how long to listen to the music or nature sounds after the voice guidance finishes.

​Blue Light Therapy
This app is perfect to brighten your day (literally) on dark, cloudy, rainy days.  It's a great tool for SAD sufferers.

The app is intended to stimulate your brain with blue light.  Just move your finger and make pretty waves while soaking in the blue light.  It's fun!  It's like a free light box!

I'd recommend using this app earlier in the day (when the sun normally shines), so the blue light doesn't interfere with sleep patterns.

HeartMath's Inner Balance
This is the coolest gadget!!  I gave the gift of Inner Balance to my husband when he was going through some adrenal stress issues and ended up using it myself, too.

The app helps you see what’s happening with groups of people near you that share your interests.

This app is great for finding like-minded people for just about everything imaginable!  Some great health-minded groups include hiking, biking, tennis, meditation, paleo groups. If you can't find one you like, create your own meetup!

pH Life
Did you read my post The Importance of a Healthy Acid/Alkaline Balance?  It explains how having a balanced pH is good for your health. Disease thrives in an overly acidic or overly alkaline body. The ideal state of the body fluids is slightly alkaline. Unfortunately, most Americans have slightly acidic environment in their body. 
This app helps you track your food and determine if you're pH balanced on a daily & weekly basis.

This app helps you vote with your wallet!

-Offers a variety of contact data for companies and brands, so you can easily inform them of your decision to support or avoid their products.

Just wanted to stop by to tell you that I took your advice and got the Pocket Yoga app. LOVE IT! I'm always looking for a better yoga video or program. So many of them are so very annoying that I use them once or twice and then I just can't take it anymore! LOL! Or they are much more Eastern Religion than I am comfortable with.

But this app is excellent! I especially like that I can customize the music. Nothing like moving to worship music! LOVE IT! Thanks so much!
