​Guidelines for Healthy Eating

When it comes to eating healthy, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Try to use traditional wisdom and eat like your great-grandparents did in the good ol’ days - before modern junk foods were invented. 

·Shop for whole foods around the perimeter of the grocery store

*Purchase organic produce to avoid harmful toxins

·Choose wild-caught fish, free-range poultry, and grass-fed meats

·Shop at your local farmer’s market

·Start a garden or utilize a community garden space

·Read the “Nutrition Facts” on packaged foods

·Say “no” to refined sugars and high fructose corn syrup

·Avoid refined grains and those that contain gluten

·Steer clear of hydrogenated “trans” fats and vegetable oils

·Keep your refrigerator stocked with healthy snack options

·Learn basic cooking skills

·Eat most meals at home & together as a family

*Involve children in meal prep and teach them healthy habits

·Plan meals ahead and enough cook for leftovers

·Bring your lunch to work

·Eat a rainbow of colorful fruits and vegetables

·Drink 8 cups of water per day

·Eat in a relaxed atmosphere to digest properly

· Try meditation to control unhealthy cravings
